Five Weeks

My fifth post-op week has been a good one. I've managed to start driving again, and have been out for longer periods lately. I'm off all my drugs, but I get sore when I do too much. I've been for longer walks, but still get quite tired if I have to walk uphill. Just really unfit! I see my surgeon on tuesday, so I am hoping to get the all clear to start intensive physio. I also am hoping that all my fusion is solid, I really don't want to go through this again!

I've decided that I need to replace my car, I was having trouble prior to my surgery getting in and out. I've listed my car on trademe, and I've been looking for something with four doors and small. Something like a toyota echo, VW polo, or similar. I'm quite fussy though, and impulsive. This is a bad combination for car shopping, because when I see something I like, I want it right away.

We get our kitten next week which is exciting, still need to find a name for him! Any suggestions are welcome.

That is so exciting you are getting a kitten. I got a dog a couple months after surgery and it really helped me recover both mentally and physically. I was looking at your list of things you can't wait to do - I heard that I could get back to swimming at 6 weeks, but it is now 7 months and I still have a difficult time getting my body up in the water (I used to be a competative swimmer). Just trust your body and don't over do it. Best, Anya

This is before I had any surgery on my back. It's looking at it front on. You can see the base of the spine is where it connects to my pelvis, and then how the top is out of line with the bottom, This made it look like I had one big hip, because my ribcage was off to one side.

Here is how my spine looks now, you can see that the part that has the rods is straight, then at the top the unfused part goes off at a different angle. The surgery tomorrow is to fix that, by putting a rod from about 2 vertebrae up and 3 or 4 below the junction.
